London Stansted Airport is located in Essex, a county to the northeast of London. It is very close to the M11 motorway, which is the major highway between London and Cambridge. The M11 has a junction with the M25 motorway, which is London's outer ring road and has links with access routes to both central London and much of the southeast.

Local roads connect the airport with many towns and cities around East Anglia and the northern outskirts of London.
