Time to talk at the airport

By Nicola Bastendorff

Neighbourhood police office opened at Stansted Airport on Tuesday (March 18).

The office, based opposite zone G at the terminal, will give members of the public and staff at the airport better access to police officers for any policing issues they may have.

The office will be manned between 1pm and 3pm each day by members of the neighbourhood policing team. These officers spend the majority of their time on high visibility patrol in and around the airport.

The office will be clearly signed as a police office but it is intended to be a place where people can come to talk to police offices about any concerns or problems they may have.

The opening coincides with a national 'A Name in Every Neighbourhood' campaign celebrating the success of neighbourhood policing.

Chief Inspector Mark Schofield said: “It is great to finally be opening this office at Stansted Airport. It will give us even more opportunities to speak to the public about any local issues at the airport.

“We hope the office will be another tool to help us continue to keep the airport safe and we look forward to meeting the people who make up the Stansted Airport community, from airport staff to visitors to the UK and those travelling aboard.

“The aim our work at Stansted Airport is to make it a safer place to travel, visit or work.”

The Stansted Airport Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) launched a ‘Get to know you’ week on the 14th May where they visited and introduced themselves to all of the business and retail outlets within their ‘beat’. They discussed areas of concern and a surprising amount of intelligence was forthcoming which is currently being acted upon.

The focus was mainly on the North, Central and South neighbourhoods and consisted of a high visibility approach by the officers tasked with responsibility for those three areas namely, Pc John Jackson, Pc Fiona Clements and Pc Garry Munoz respectively. This was supported by PCSOs and will receive further support in the future by Special Constables who are currently in the process of being recruited.

The NPT intend to tackle all none urgent policing issues or community based problems and they ask that if you have any policing related concerns that adversely affect your community or you have an idea that you think could improve your quality of life then please just give them a call or speak to them as they patrol your area.
